The Craft & Authenticity
Is every piece really handmade?
Yes. Each piece is handcrafted with passion and so much patience by master craftsmen in Damascus — some with more than 75 years at the workbench. No two pieces are ever identical: the wood grain, the mother-of-pearl, the hands that made it — all one of a kind.
How do I know my piece is authentic?
Every Damascus Box piece ships with a numbered certificate of authenticity, individually registered and signed. It documents the piece, its materials and its origin in Damascus.
What is Damascene mosaic?
Damascene mosaic is a centuries-old woodcraft from Damascus, Syria. Fine pieces of walnut, rose, lemon and other natural woods are cut and inlaid by hand — together with mother-of-pearl — into intricate geometric patterns. The technique is passed down from father to son through generations. It is a story you can hold in your hands.
Who makes your pieces?
Independent master craftsmen in Damascus whom we know personally — we buy directly from their workshops, with no middlemen. Read the story of Abu Boutros, 90 years old with more than 75 years in the craft, on our blog.
How do I care for my mosaic piece?
Simply wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Keep it away from direct sunlight, radiators and humidity. No polish or chemicals are needed — the natural wax finish protects the wood and mother-of-pearl for generations.
