Made by hand in Damascus by the Al-Halabi family workshop.
This small square box is a Damascene Mu'ashak (معشّق) piece. The word describes work in which tiny pieces of mother-of-pearl are cut and set by hand, one beside the next, to form the surface. Here the body is covered in green mother-of-pearl over a core of beechwood, and the shell catches the light as the box is turned.
The interior is lined with brocade. It holds jewelry and keepsakes safely. Each pearl piece is placed individually, so this box is one of a kind.

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Keep away from direct sunlight, radiators and humidity. No polish or chemicals needed, the natural wax finish protects the wood and mother-of-pearl for generations.
